ACADEMICS
Can I complete the entire first 2 years using your online program from anywhere in the world?
Yes! it is fully accredited using the latest technology. However, you may have to travel to one of the campuses during your final exams. (which means that you will need to travel at least twice per year).
What
is the average class size of the School of Medicine?
Approximately
17 new students matriculate each term (August and January) IN EACH CLASS.
Who
will teach me in the basic
science years?
One of the major strengths
of our faculty, besides their credentials and commitment to teaching, is the length
of their service at the School of Medicine and their dedication to Medical Missions.
Teaching is the major concern of the faculty, although research projects and Medical
Mission are ongoing process through the departments. The student:faculty ratio
is 9:1 in the basic sciences.
How long will I be in the Medical
School?
You will be in one of our campuses
for two years for your basic science studies. You will have summer and winter
breaks, similar to the schedules followed at
US and UK medical schools.
How long will it take
me to complete the medical program?
The
medical program is FOUR academic years in length, generally completed in 3
calendar years. If you were to begin studies in August of 2005 and remained on
track with your class, you could expect to graduate in the Spring of 2008. Preclinical
training is conducted on one of the campuses you have enrolled to for (77 weeks
of instruction) and the clinical training is completed at our affiliated hospitals
in the United States, the United Kingdom, Aurstralia, France, the Caribbean and
the Tempest Ships (80 weeks of instruction), generally completed in two years.
Students who pursue the dual degrees offered in Public Health (MD/MPH) or Research
(MD/MSc) will spend at least one extra term of study during their basic science
years.
What can I expect during my Clinical
Training years?
The Global Medical Academy
clinical program trains physicians for today's global society. If you take advantage
of all locations (as well as Ship training) of affiliated hospitals, you will
be exposed to medicine as it is practiced and taught in the United States, the
United Kingdom France, the Caribbean and Aurstralia. There are various tracks
within the program. Students are advised by the Clinical Deans throughout the
program as to the nature and scope of these clinical tracks.
Why is Global Medical Academy clinical
training superior to that of other non-US medical schools?
Unlike
schools that put students in any open clinical spots available, Global offers
a highly integrated system of affiliated hospitals, Clinical Centers, and Medical
Ships all of whose core rotations have ACGME-approved residency training programs
running concurrently.
Why is it important to look for concurrent
ACGME-approved residency training programs?
Many
key states in the United States will not license graduates of non-US schools if
any of their core rotations were done at hospitals without concurrent ACGME-approved
residency training programs. Our program in the United Kingdom and other countries
is similar to that in the United States.
Do I have to figure clinical placement
myself?
Each and every one of our clinical
students is placed by our Office of Clinical Studies after deciding what his preferences
are for clinical training location. Each student is then shepherded through training
by a dedicated team of long-term faculty members in a cohesive and structured
medical program. All of our hospital, clinical center and Medical Ships affiliations
are led by an on-site Director of Medical Education and a Program Director in
each core rotation. This meticulously crafted educational program results in a
99% US residency placement rate for our eligible US graduates.
Can I transfer into
Global University?
Yes

Do I have to work with IAMS for one year ?

therefore applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Prospective candidates
should note that entering classes are highly competitive and applications completed
early have the advantage of being reviewed at the beginning of the admission's

The time necessary to secure official
transcripts, standardized test scores and letters of recommendation should be
taken into consideration. The Board reserves the right to defer an application
